Descartes, René
(born on March 31, 1596 in La Haye / died on February 11, 1650 in Stockholm)
René Descartes was a French philosopher. Many would say he is the father of
modernity, in the sense where he developed a philosophy, a metaphysic, which
can reconcile very modern ideas like liberty, rationalism and sciences. He stated
his ideas for the first time in his Discourse on the Method (1637), in which he
reveals his idea on a method inspired by the accuracy of mathematics, which
would let human thought, with science, reach clear and distinct truths.
