Plato
(428/427 B.C. to 348/347 B.C.)
Plato was a philosopher from ancient Greece. A monument of philosophy, he had
Socrates as a master, and one of his most famous students was Aristotle. His
work is immense and includes some 28 writings named dialogues. He founded
his Academy (school) in Athens in 387 B.C. He explored themes of metaphysics,
ethics, knowledge and politics.
